Hello! I’m Emily Fyfe, a multimedia artist and illustrator, based on Treaty Six Territory, outside of Rich Valley, Alberta. In 2023, I graduated from Alberta University of the Arts’ Visual Communications Design program with distinction. There I studied illustration and character design, and fell in love with creating visuals and adapting narratives for younger audiences, as well as graphic novels and alternative methods of storytelling, like zines. Since graduating, Emily I’ve also dabbled in mural painting and selling my work through local markets.

After completing my degree, I returned to the country where I grew up and eventually settled on my partner’s generational farm. My practice is influenced by my upbringing and life in rural Alberta, the natural world that surrounds me, and both mine and my partner’s families history with farming. I enjoys capturing the quaint beauty of small towns, pastures, and forests, while telling the stories of those who live in them, through combinations of drawing, painting and cut paper collage.

I can also be found at Stony Plain Public Library, where I work part time as a library assistant, or volunteering for the Onoway Museum and Heritage Centre and George Pegg Botanic Garden, helping the rural communities that raised me preserve local history for future generations. In my spare time, I enjoy wandering through the field, reading, and gardening.
